A castle town steeped in history and culture

Komine Castle, the lauded gateway to Oshu.
Nanko Park, built by Matsudaira Sadanobu, benevolent daimyo of the Shirakawa Domain, and thought to be the oldest park in Japan.
Shirakawa boasts many sightseeing attractions, with seasonal changes in the scenery providing delightful contrasts.
The old Oshu highway runs through the central city.
The place is bursting with historical temples and shrines, retro buildings and cool shops.
